Seek Therapy If...

Therapy can be beneficial if you're experiencing challenges in various aspects of your life, especially as a Black woman. These challenges might include difficulties in communication, navigating emotions, managing relationships, finding work-life balance, and gaining self-awareness and self-acceptance. Therapy can provide a safe space to explore these issues and develop strategies for growth and healing.

What Is Therapy?

Therapy is a collaborative process between you and a trained therapist aimed at improving your mental health and well-being. It provides a supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, gain insight into yourself, and learn coping skills to address challenges. In therapy, you can work through issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions, with the goal of achieving greater self-understanding and resilience.

Therapy draws from various approaches and techniques to address your specific needs. These may include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Focuses on acceptance of thoughts and feelings, and committing to actions aligned with your values.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to manage emotions and improve relationships.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors.

  • Somatic Experiencing: Focuses on the body's physical sensations to release trauma-related tension and stress.

  • Integrative Techniques: An approach that combines various therapeutic modalities tailored to your unique needs.

    Goal Setting & Motivation

Therapy focuses on your sense of being, thinking, and feeling and how a you relate the world around you. Its focus is to identify, diagnose, and treat nervous and mental disorders. The goals include alleviating symptoms, understanding the underlying personality dynamics which create symptoms, changing the dysfunctional behaviors which are the result of these disorders, and helping patients to cope with their psychological problems.

  • Yes, I am currently in-network with Care First Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna. If you have a different insurance provider, I recommend contacting them to inquire about your specific mental health benefits.

  • If you do not have insurance or prefer to pay out of pocket, the following fee schedule applies:

    Initial Assessment: $180

    30-minute Session: $80

    45-minute Session: $120

    50-minute Session: $150

    Group Therapy: $30 per client

Many of my clients choose to pay out of pocket due to the restrictive nature of insurance coverage, which may not include certain treatment modalities or may limit the number of sessions provided. Paying out of pocket offers greater freedom and flexibility in your treatment.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about fees or insurance coverage.

  • Opting to pay out of pocket for therapy offers several benefits:

Confidentiality: Your therapy does not need to be documented with a diagnosis for insurance purposes, ensuring greater confidentiality of your personal information.

Flexibility in Choosing a Therapist: You are not limited to therapists within your insurance network, allowing you to select a therapist based on their expertise and how well you connect with them.

Unlimited Sessions: Unlike some insurance plans that restrict the number of covered sessions, paying out of pocket means there are no limits on the number of sessions you can have. This gives you the freedom to engage in therapy for as long as you and your therapist deem necessary for your progress and well-being.

Coverage for Adjustment Issues and Milder Symptoms: Opting out of insurance can be beneficial if you have adjustment issues or milder symptoms that may not meet insurance companies' criteria for coverage. This way, you won't risk being denied coverage due to the lack of severity of your symptoms.

  • The No Surprise Act is a federal law that protects consumers from unexpected medical bills, including those related to mental health services. Under this law, healthcare providers are required to provide patients with clear and accurate cost estimates for services before they are provided.

As a client, the No Surprise Act ensures that you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" of the expected charges for your therapy sessions. This estimate should include all anticipated costs, such as session fees and any additional services or treatments that may be required.
